On the day of the tour, we easily found our tour guide, Stan, at the appropriate meeting spot near Centraal Station. We spent the next several hours crisscrossing De Wallen. Stan did a fantastic job of presenting the history of the Red Light District, as well as explaining current trends and norms regarding this aspect of Amsterdam's culture and nightlife. (Being from New Orleans, I can honestly say that we were neither shocked nor offended by anything we saw or heard in the red Light District.) Our time with Stan felt less like being "on a tour" and more like being "out for an evening with a friend". We stopped for a drink at Wynand Fockink Proeflokaal and Spirits, and then when we asked for a suggestion for a place for dinner, Stan brought us to Il Pacioccone (a lovely Italian restaurant just off the Singel. Overall we had an absolutely wonderful time on this tour. I would highly recommend it!
